Laurie Ann Davis began studying acting in 1985 at Long Island University where she received her B.A. in Comunications Arts. At the time acting was just a dream. Told by many, 'Don't take drama as a major" "An acting career is too difficult, you won't make any money". Although Laurie's heart ached when she didn't act, she foolishly took the advice of others who had lost their own dreams.
After doing countless internships and working as an assistant in corporate and entertainment public relations, Laurie decided to quit her job and study acting in New York. First she studied at The Acting Studio with the Neighborhood Playhouse's Ian McRae, Ed Ferron of Weist Barron, Jim Bonney, Gene Frankel, Larry Ellis, Penny Templeton, Gwynn Gillis, various teachers at the School For Film And Television, including Joan See and Ruth Nerken , studied speech at the Sam Chwat’s famous New York Speech and private voice lessons with the late David Russell. With years of acting technique in theatre and film and television/commercial training under her belt, Laurie began with the theatre. She has performed as Anne Frank, Tilly in The effects of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds, Silent History, Tickled Pink, The one Minute Play Contest, Talk Show Murders, Wrong Turn at Lungfish, Sex Education, Six Rms Riv U, Bermuda Avenue Triangle and many plays she has written including: The Kid of P.S. 102, The Lazy Ass Teenagers, Why Christmas, What About Love and many more. Laurie has also co-authored a monologue book with former student and friend Christine Kolenik called “Finally..Monologues That Work” for children ages 4 thru 18 and is currently working with Christine on one for adults. Christine and Laurie are also bringing her programs into the public school systems with a BOCES approved program called “Acting Out Loud.” Laurie also had the opportunity to bring her expertise to a summer camp and the dance school “Variations” this past summer. Laurie has been in various commercials including one for TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly Magazine, Ademco Home Security, Cell-Rx Skin Care Line, First United Capital and Wendy’s. Laurie also enjoyed playing a newspaper reporter on One Life to Live for five years and playing Mrs. Coleman in the Independent Film “*69” directed by Elke Blasi.
The Star Map acting experience is about the basics of acting technique (both Meisner and Method): improvisations, theatre games, relaxation/breath control, yoga, emotional/energy expansion, voice and body technique, creative release work, on-camera work, learn to set goals, become more confident, find the artist in you, work on a scene/monologue and have the opportunity to perform in front of an audience during an open class.
